Year 1/2 News

Arrivederci to Term 1

The Year 1/2 students have had an amazing first term. We have loved being back in the classrooms investigating, reading, writing, solving mathematical problems, exploring stories about Jesus, learning about how our bodies keep healthy and looking after our emotions.

We hope each and every child has a well deserved break.

Celebration of Learning

Mathematics -Looking at Data

The students in Year 1/2 have been looking at collecting and interpreting data. We have chosen simple questions to gather responses, used tally marks and created simple picture and bar graphs. We then looked at our graphs to interpret and analyse the information presented. Some of the questions the students have posed are:

What is your favourite ice cream flavour?

How do you get to school in the morning?

What is your favourite animal?

Wellbeing - Developing Positive Relationships

Over the past few weeks the students have been learning about positive relationships.  Positive relationships are essential for students to develop their social and emotional capacity in a healthy way. Students learn how to grow their relationships, drawing on mindfulness foundations such as empathy, kindness and gratitude. Through our guided meditation, we encourage students to practise mindfulness in a more independent way and as a foundation to build positive relationships.

Holy Week

During the season of Lent students have been listening to the stories of Holy Week and sharing their responses to the stories. They have also identified the importance of Jesus and others during these events.  Students have been reflecting upon why Lent and Easter is important to us, and have looked at ways we celebrate Lent and Easter as a community.

How Can We Keep Our Bodies Healthy?

Throughout term 1, the students have been focusing on healthy bodies and minds for our inquiry unit. Below are some examples of information books the students have created with facts about keeping healthy:
