Day 8: Easter Sunday, The Resurrection

While the exact order of events during Holy Week is debated by biblical scholars, the one thing that is agreed upon is the representation and the approximate outline of major events that occurred during the holiest of days on the Christian calendar -Holy Week. Recalling the steps of Jesus Christ from Palm Sunday through to the Resurrection on Easter Sunday, students will explore the major events that occurred on each day through their formal Religious Education lessons.

Across all year levels, students will engage with scripture/biblical stories that will help them make sense of the events that took place during Holy Week. Through dialogue, and imagery students' understanding of the importance of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ will be studied with all children. Students will grow in their understanding of the sacrifice Jesus undertook but always trusting in God the Father.

During this Lent and Easter season, we too are asked to sacrifice and trust in God. That God is experienced in the everyday people we meet each day.

The following reading is taken from St Paul, and he reminds us that we encounter God through Jesus Christ. Today we ask ourselves, Where do we find him? The answer is that We find him in our everyday life through the people we meet each day. We are challenged to see Christ in the face of all.

‘The word Lord is near you, on your lips and in your heart.’

A reading from St Paul’s letter to the Romans

But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The Scripture says, ‘No one who believes in him will be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

The Way of the Cross

This morning our school community engaged in a reflective Para-liturgy that was led by our Spiritual leader Fr Simon as we focused on Jesus' journey to the Cross. Our Faith leaders acted out the 'Stations of the Cross'

Jesus' passion and death is the sacrifice that unites earth and heaven, and reconciles all people of God. May we who faithfully reflect on the mysteries of Jesus' life, and death follow in your steps so we come to share in the glory of the Lord's risen life with God the Father and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever.
