Principal's Report
Dear families and friends of MPW,
What a great turnout we had for the Community Trivia Night – Summer Vibes on Friday night! We had around 150 in attendance. The gym looked fantastic for the evening festivities. I acknowledged at assembly yesterday that the fundraising committee had taken on board some ideas from an assembly sharing this term regarding not using balloons as decorations due to the environmental impact and decided to use paper decorations instead of balloons for the night. This was a great example of our students sharing their learning publicly at assembly and others being able to learn from and act as a result of student voice.
Thank you to Naomi and Sandra for their coordination of the Trivia Night and thank you to the fundraising committee and parent helpers for their work leading into the event. We look forward to next year’s event! Look out for a full report and the fundraising result in the next newsletter.
We have SHOW DAY next Wednesday 14th September. Show Day will run between 12pm and 2pm. Parents are welcome to be part of the festivities and can enter via the community gate on Athol Street, near the soccer pitch, from 12pm.
Students and classes are busily planning for their stalls and activities. JSC has had a large role in supporting and coordinating elements of the day to feed back to their classes. It is a fantastic way to end the term and for students to come together with the community to celebrate some of their learning and achievements at school.
Teams will be communicating to families their opportunities for ‘open classroom’ sessions, providing parents with the opportunity to come into classrooms to see student learning or just a chance to see the inside of the classroom.
We have Jump Rope for Heart on Friday, thank you to Miranda for her work organising the skipping activities for the morning sessions. Students have had the opportunity for a healthy lunch order on the day. We are hoping to have a whole school picnic on the Tiger Turf to celebrate and conclude our fundraising and skipping achievements. Thank you to students and families for their fundraising efforts towards supporting the Heart Foundation.
End of Term Reminders
Next Friday 16th September is the last day of term 3, and we will be holding our final assembly for term 3 will on this day at 9am in the gym. Dismissal time for the last day of term is 2.30pm.
Hats
Students are required to wear a SunSmart (broadbrimmed) hat between September and May when outside for play, PE or class activities. Students without hats will be asked to play or sit in shaded areas. Caps and visors are not suitable alternatives for SunSmart protection.
NAPLAN 2022 Results
We received our NAPLAN results at the end of last week, the first time NAPLAN was conducted online for our students. Parents of our year 3 and 5 students will receive the individual student report this week.
As a school, we will analyse the NAPLAN results at the school level to reflect on areas of strengthen and future work to continue striving to improve learning outcomes for all our students. NAPLAN gives us a point in time reflection of student and school performance.
Leaving MPW in 2023?
We continue planning towards the 2023 school year, a reminder that if you are planning on your child(ren) not being at Moonee Ponds West in 2023 that you please complete the form below and return to the office or to moonee.ponds.west.ps@education.vic.gov.au
This information will help the school to confirm enrolment numbers for next year.
If you are not returning, I offer thanks to the student(s) and family for their contributions and partnership with our school. We wish all the best for those moving on to a new setting in their future learning journey.
Emergency Drill next week
Early next week we are planning an Onsite Evacuation Drill in order to practise our emergency management processes. We will communicate to families through Compass after this has occurred.
Parent Opinion Survey
Finally, a reminder that if you were randomly invited to participate in the Parent Opinion Survey for the school that we encourage you to complete this in order to provide feedback to the school. As of today, only 8% of the 80 families invited have completed the survey. For the school to get a get a reasonable sample of parent feedback and perception we would like to reach at least a 75% response rate.
Regards,
Jarrod Sutton
