Make a Change

Our world is dying. With tonnes of waste, landfill and heaps of pollution damaging our atmosphere and changing our climate. We could die out because of heat, dehydration, pollution and flooding. We are people who need your help to stop this when others will not.

Green House Gases

Green House gases are made from burning coal and fossil fuels. The gases pollute the atmosphere and store heat in the earth’s atmosphere, heating up our climate and damaging the ozone layer.

OZONE LAYER.

Our Ozone Layer works as a sunscreen for Earth, stopping dangerous UV rays from burning the wonderful life on earth.

The Waste We Produce

Families

An average family of four wastes two whole trucks of food a month, causing what used to be perfectly good food to go to landfill because someone may have served too much or let the carrots go mouldy. If you think about it, you waste around 24 full trucks of food every year, and that’s just one family. When the food goes to waste and mixes with the chemicals and oils in plastics, it releases methane, another greenhouse gas. Remember, this is only in Australia, imagine how much is wasted around the whole world.

Farmers and Consumer Laws.

Most shops have laws about what their food should look like, for example, shops will not take bananas that are too long, too short and they won’t even take a banana too curved or straight. This is forcing farmers to throw out apples, tomatoes and thousands of other foods into landfill. ‘War on Waste,’ is a video that can help you understand just how horrible this is and what you can do about it.

Climate Change and Animal Habitat

The waste we throw out is disgraceful and so are the greenhouse gases we produce. These things cause global warming. Although global warming is happening already, it can increase the temperature by only a decimal, but makes the earth hotter, meaning some day the earth could get too hot. The more waste and pollution we produce, the quicker that happens. Global warming doesn’t just affect humans, but massively impacts animals and the whole world. The warming of the earth is melting the ice causing possible floods and tsunamis, and with the ozone layer dying bush fires would be more and more likely. More animals will be dying, including sea animals like turtles and fish. The polar bears and other ice animals will drown in the water. Just think about it. Really think.

You can make your own change. Use your creativity and find some ways to change the future.

Install natural power resources, start collecting compost or protest about consumer laws.

Help us start a new future.

'So What'

I invite families to support the Inquiry ‘So What’ question for the years 2/3 classes.

As a result of their learning this term the children have indicated their desire to support those who may need it. They have been investigating the community.

So in the front Office there is a red plastic bin for any donations of non-perishable foods that could be made into hampers for West Wagon Asylum Seekers Resource Centre in Sunshine.

This is a voluntary act of kindness from one family to another!
