Term 4 Meetings

School Council meeting Monday 26th November 2018:

We firstly heard from members of the Junior School Council, Jack P and Amelia K, Grade 4 students, who discussed work with the MPWPS Visions and Values, talked about reflections from Show Day and the Poppy appeal, and also outlined plans for a memorial for Stan (the school’s next-door neighbour for many years who passed away earlier this year).

We reviewed Sub-Committee reports including news from the Resources, Education and Environment and Sustainability Sub-committees. The draft budget for 2019 will be presented at the next Resources meeting, the Parent Payment policy was approved for 2019 to provide an early and transparent overview of school expenses. Plans to develop a sensory garden at MPWPS were discussed with the Environment and Sustainability Sub-committee overseeing this exciting project.

Importantly, Kerri presented an extensive review of the recent MPWPS Strategic Review and talked about this process and recent discussions had as well as the direction that the school needs to take to be implementing the directions of the Department of Education. Naplan results over the last 5 years, with trends over time in the different categories, were also presented and reviewed. The school plans to use information from Naplan and the Review to better support student achievement and a brief report will be written soon for the school community to summarise all of these issues and future plans. Kerri highlighted the importance of ongoing teacher professional development and outlined that structure will be designed for enabling staff to do further collaborative learning that will also contribute to improve student achievement. The recent formal Review will also inform and shape the new 4-year Strategic Plan being developed at present.

Discussions were also had at Council about a potential new Community sub-committee to be developed to provide a stronger link and increased communication between the school and parents/carers. There is one final School Council meeting for the year to be held in December.
