St James Soccer Team

What a fabulous week in sport! This week we had two teams represent St James at the Beachside competitions this week. On Tuesday our Soccer Team consisting of students from years 4-6 played at Kingston Heath. St James was in Pool B, our first game was against Middle Park Primary, it was a very close game as evident by the score where we drew 1-1. The next round we played Oakleigh Grammar, they had beaten Middle Park so we knew we had to either beat them or ensure the margin was quite small. We scored the first goal of this game which was a huge lift to the spirits of our team. We saw some fantastic defence from many of our players to help keep their goals to a minimum however, we were defeated in that game 2-1. This however, allowed us to finish 2nd in our pool which meant we were through to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals we played St Finbars. Once again St James scored a goal quickly and then with 30 seconds to go we scored another to secure the game with a final score of 3-1 win and a grand final! In the grand final we played Oakleigh Grammar again. For the first half we kept the goals even, but in the last 5-10minutes of the day Oakleigh Grammar proved to good and ended up winning the grand final.

Overall we finished 2nd in the Beachside District for Soccer. What a fabulous achievement. A huge thank-you to all of our students who were brilliant as always. Also thank-you to Jason Storer who coached our students on the day and also to all of our supporters who came to cheer us on.

St James AFL Team

On Wednesday it was the St James AFL teams turn to take on the other Beachside teams that made it through from their districts. Their was 5 teams in this competition. All teams played each other in a round robin tournament. St James won 2 out of their 4 games to finish 3rd overall. Another fantastic achievement. Well done to all students who were involved in the AFL team, it was the coldest start to the day in some years but the skies were blue and there was lots of smiles.

Thank-you to Sarah Black and Lachie Doquile for coaching and Dave Picking for supporting the team in many ways also. Once again the team had many supporters which we always love to see on these days.

Team Vic Announcement and VIS Development Squad. Congratulations to Keeley!

A huge well done to Keeley who has been selected to the Team Vic Diving Team. This is a huge achievement and one that many of our young sporting champions aspire to do and Keeley has done it!  Keeley will be representing Victoria at the National School Sports championships in late August.  She has also been chosen to join the Diving VIS Junior Development Squad.  Good luck Keeley.

Hoop Time

Our next sporting event for Term 3 will be Hoop Time to be held at MSAC on Thursday 4th August for our Year 5/6 students and Tuesday 9th August for our year 3/4students. Students are currently completing a unit of basketball during Physical Education classes, which is allowing us to work out teams and levels. All students will be placed into a team according to their ability. The All Stars are students who currently play at a rep or domestic level, the future stars are players who play at a domestic level and the rookies is for students who have not played competition basketball before.

Thank-you to everyone who has volunteered to coach/supervise on this day.  I will be in touch shortly with further details.
