Student Representative Council (SRC)

At St James we believe in the importance for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling and to learn the art of building relationships. The Student Leadership Program provides opportunities for student voice, the development of student leadership skills and encourages active participation in the decision making processes. Our philosophy is to prepare our students to be future leaders in the community.

Develop and demonstrate leadership skills over time

* To develop and promote student voice within our school community through SRC from P-6.

* Apply leadership skills to school initiatives and programs through our Year 6 leadership program.

* Contribution to a caring, safe environment through the buddy program across year levels.

Leadership for Students in Foundation to Year 5

Students in Foundation to Year 5 are given the opportunity to vote for two students each semester to represent their class voice during SRC meetings.

Leadership in Year 6

During Term 4 of Year 5 all students in Year 5 participate in a program called SuperSpeak. This program prepares our student leaders for their leadership speeches to be presented in front of the Year 3, 4 and 6 cohorts. Students vote using a google form for each participant and are given the opportunity to give their top two preferences based on a specific criteria.

Year 6

During term 2 in Year 6 we worked incredibly hard in our Inquiry topic, Geography. We started off the unit by labelling everything we know about the world and watching a video to spark our interest. We then were able to write down some wonderings we each had, then created a wonderings wall, where for homework we were able to take one of the questions home each week, research and answer. These answers were placed on the wall. This was a great way to see everything we learned throughout the topic.

During the topic we discovered more about the world , the oceans, countries and continents often starting the day by playing the game Global. We really enjoyed guessing the country and learning more about the world we live in.

We also put our technological skills to use and created a website from scratch using Weebly. On these websites we were able to share with our audience everything we knew, learned and researched about our countries. This was no easy task, but a very rewarding one as we all ended up with excellent results.

Please have a look at our websites and see for yourself, we hope you even learn something !!

We worked off a rubric and were marked on a scale of: Outstanding, Excellent, Good and Needs more effort.  We participated in self, peer and teacher feedback, all having a go at marking off the rubric. We reflected critically and learned from our errors.

Due to our hard work all students had a result of either outstanding or excellent. We hope you enjoyed looking at our websites !

Year 3/4C

In Writing the 3/4  students have been looking at Poetry and different types of poems. This week we have focused on Rhyming Poems.

Here are some samples written by the students in 3/4C.

Seagulls

Seagulls can be annoying when they steal your chips.

They put it on the gray concrete and rip it into shredded bits.

It makes me so mad so I scrunch up the chip box.

The grease drips out and gets all over my new clean socks.

Shine Bright like a star.

As the stars shine bright in the sky, the sun shines high.

While I fly in the sky the moon shines bright and catches my eye.

Yoga with our Buddies

On Friday, the Year 6 and Foundation students did yoga with Jackie. We loved learning lots of new poses and stretches, listening carefully to the singing bowl and calming our bodies through meditation.
