Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

A reminder to parents that Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN testing is next week, Week 4. Testing begins on Tuesday, May 11 and finishes on Friday, 14 May.

Year 3 complete their writing assessment on paper next Tuesday. All other assessments for Year 3 and Year 5 are online. Classes will be reorganised for online assessments so students will have use of school laptops and a secure browser to complete the assessments. Students begin with Language Conventions and the Writing paper. Thursday is Reading and on Friday NAPLAN finishes with Year 3 Numeracy online. Numeracy. Monday 17 till Thursday 20 are catch up days if any students have been absent.

NAPLAN results will be available to paretns and schools in August this year.

Winter uniform is to be worn in Terms 2 and 3. The uniform shop is open online. Our Girraween School hat and or beanie is part of the winter uniform. We expect all students to wear the correct uniform each day.

Year 5 entry to an opportunity class in 2022

Online applications for Year 5 placement in an opportunity class in 2022 opened on Tuesday 20 April 2021 and will close on Friday 7 May 2021. Late applications cannot be accepted.

The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 21 July 2021.

Our next P&C meeting is on Wednesday 19 May at 7.00pm in the staffroom. Please feel free to come along and hear about all of the great activities happening at Girraween Public School.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we had our annual Mother’s Day Gift Stall. There was a wonderful selection of gifts available for students to purchase. A big thank you to all of the volunteers that assisted on the day. I wish all of the mothers in our community a wonderful Mother’s day on Sunday.

Many families in our school community are feeling great anxiety over the COVID-19 situation in India. Distressing images are in regular news items on TV and social media. If parents are aware of students feeling distress over the impact of the pandemic please inform your child's teacher. Our school counsellor is available to assist students at this time.

Reducing viewing of news items and social media may be a good way to limit the impact of this disaster on students. I sincerely hope that the situation improves for all those affected by the pandemic.
