Kaori Bawden

Foundation and Grade 1 / 2 classes have been learning about Ninja's related words such as top, bottom, and inside (direction words) in this term. We have also been practicing Kanji for nature such as Water 水 ”Mizu”, Tree 木 ”Ki”, Soil 土 ”Tsuchi”, Wind 風 ”Kaze”, and Fire 火 ”Hi”.

We made Ninja sticks with those Kanji symbols and students' Ninja decorations.  It is not easy to become Ninja, we need to try hard to learn and master more about how to control our voice (breathing), balance (hearing), and movement (walking).

In grades 3 to 6, we learned about World Food Day which was on the 16th of October. It was a great discussion about how to raise awareness of our healthy diet and the impact of our food waste and inequality. Not only learning about Japanese food, but we would also like to take an action on how to reduce waste by buying only what we need, paying attention to food storage, and making our own vegetable garden.

It was a great start to our Food "Tabemono" unit this term and we have just begun to explore 和食”Wa shoku” which is Japanese Food. We had two types of tea that are very popular in Japan, students have experienced tasting tea called Genmai cha and Houji cha. I was amazed that some of them even tried both and liked them.

Thumbs up for Grades 3 to 6!

This week's Target word is お茶!”O cha” means tea.
