Principal's Report

Term 4 Reflection

Principal’s Report

As we reach the end of the 2022 academic year we can look back and reflect upon the ups and downs this year has brought us. At the start of the year we all hoped and believed that the challenges of 2020 were behind us, unfortunately this was not to be and this year has been characterised by lockdowns.  However, there have also been great successes this year, from us kicking off the year with our 10-year Celebration at the school (with cake and singing for everyone to enjoy), swimming and athletics competitions. Through to a fabulous valedictory and celebration event at the end of the year.

Our Class of 2021 Year 12 students have had particularly difficult pathway through VCE. I am in awe of the resilience of this cohort, and how they faced another difficult year together. The support they provided each other throughout the past two years clearly demonstrates the respect and care they share.  I wish them all the best and I want each one of you to know, we are so proud of you. No matter what your results are on the 16th of December, be proud of what you have achieved and the experiences you have been through. We hope you will cherish your memories at SCHS as you move into your future aspirations.

We have seen the school buzzing with excitement as our other students are preparing to finish school for 2021 and start their well-deserved holidays. We hope that we can continue to give you the rich school experiences in 2022 and look forward to welcoming you back. You have all shown that despite lockdown, your contributions to various activities virtually and at the school has continued. You will continue to help our school carry on our traditions while upholding our school’s values, and hopefully with no future lockdowns. I will single out one student though. Each year we award the Renaissance Award. To achieve this, students must achieve awards in at least four of the five categories, of which at least three are gold colours, in one year. Congratulations to Aarushi Malhotra for being our Renaissance Award recipient for 2021.

The continued success of the school would not have been possible without our staff. Each one of them has worked towards a common goal to ensure that our students were safe, happy, and thriving. As Acting Principal during this difficult year, I have seen the staff work tirelessly to ensure we could give our students the best experience possible. There is a lot of change in the air which is understandable coming out of many lockdowns. Several staff are taking up other opportunities in different schools, and we will be welcoming new staff members in 2022. I want to thank each of you for helping to ensure that school continued to be a safe space for our students and for working tirelessly through this difficult year. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

Term 4 has been one of great celebration.

  • We were able to have all our students back on school grounds
  • We were able to give our Year 12 Students a Valedictory Celebration in the Agora which was transformed into a wonderful event space
  • We were able to have a Decennial picnic afternoon (and just missed the storm!) for our current students and staff to enjoy.

It’s these events, small and large, that we will cherish in the years to come.

It has been an honour to be the Acting Principal for Suzanne Cory High School.  Thank you to everyone in our school community for helping us get through 2021.  Best wishes to everyone during the festive season and stay safe. Hopefully our anticipations for a great year in 2022 will come to fruition.
