Australian Mathematics Competition

The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems. The competition will be available in paper format.

The AMC is for students of all standards. Students are asked to solve 30 problems in 60 minutes (Years 3–6). The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and questions are designed so that they can be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one. The problems get more difficult through the competition, so that at the end they are challenging to the most gifted students. Students of all standards will make progress through the problems, and also be challenged along the way.

If your child is in grade 3, 4, 5 or 6 and would like participate please collect an enrolment form from the office. The Competition will take place on August 9 at school.

There is a cost of $6.50 to participate in the competition.

If you have a question please see Vicki McCormack in Room 4.

National Tree Day

Next Friday, MPW will be celebrating National Tree Day! To support this wonderful community event, each classroom will participate in an activity during Free Activity Time (FAT). Joining with Bunnings, Maribyrnong we will be planting native seeds in the classrooms and we will also be planting some more native plants within our school, near the soccer pitch during lunch time.

Parents are welcome to support the classrooms during this FAT session if you would like. Just touch base with your classroom teacher.

We look forward to making MPW a little greener!
