EAL News

Have you ever wondered what’s involved in VCE EAL?

The VCE EAL course has been designed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and it is very similar to the English course. It is a dynamic and rigorous course designed to challenge and extend EAL students.

VCE EAL is divided into 4 units, across years 11 and 12. Each unit is divided into areas of study with learning outcomes that focus on specific key skills and knowledge. Over the units, EAL students develop their reading and viewing, listening, speaking and writing skills. Assessments vary to include speeches, listening comprehension tasks and writing tasks, and exams.

EAL students engage with a range of text types throughout the course, including plays and novels. In Year 11 (Unit 1), students are working with the anthology of memoirs “Growing up in Australia”, and in Year 12 (Units 3 & 4) students work with the plays “Rainbow’s End” and “The Seven Stages of Grieving”, as well as the novel “The Longest Memory”.
