From the Principal Team

We have had an extremely busy and focused second half of term 2, with many exciting activities and opportunities for our students and preparation for final assessments and semester reports.

From Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th June our year 7 students had the opportunity to attend Camp Rumbug, set in 200 acres of temperate rainforest overlooking Wilsons Promontory National Park. Students participated in a wide range of exciting adventure activities with their peers and staff.  Camps are a special opportunity for those attending to develop independence, build relationships with classmates and teachers and try new experiences outside of the traditional school environment.

We would like to commend our year 10 and year 11 students for their dedication to their studies and efforts in completing their semester exams in week 7.  This is a valuable opportunity to prepare for VCE exams in year 12.

Our year 12 students will be attending their senior formal on Thursday in the second week of the holidays. This event is a celebration of the achievements of our year 12 students and staff thus far and will help to motivate them for the final assessments to come in term 3 and 4.  Thank you to the Senior Student Leadership Team and staff for your organisation and dedication in creating this opportunity for year 12 students.

Our year 11 and 12 students completed the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Thursday 15th June.  The GAT assesses students' skills in mathematics, science, technology, the arts and humanities. The GAT also assesses their skills against new literacy and numeracy standards, which were introduced last year.  Sitting the GAT is an opportunity for students to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills – this is essential to show they are ready to move on to further study, training or employment.  Congratulations to our students in years 11 and 12 who showed persistence and effort in completing this test.

Our semester based elective studies will conclude this term for our students in years 7 to 10. Students will be excited about beginning their new subjects in term 3 and exploring and applying new knowledge and skills.

We have continued to ensure we have a settled, calm and safe learning environment for our students. Our Calmer Classrooms approach strengthens routines in teaching and learning practices, enables us to create and communicate clear expectations and helps us to deepen our knowledge of our students and their learning needs and interests.

Welcome to our new staff members, joining us in a range of roles:

  • Shivani Deo – Accounting & Commerce Teacher
  • Tina Kountouri – Corrective Reading Facilitator
  • Mary Calthorpe – College Operations & Daily Organisation Assistant
  • Amandeep Kaur – Maths & Science Teacher
  • Olivia Andrew – Curriculum Development, Assessment & Reporting Teacher
  • Hayley Knott – Integration Aide

Semester reports will be published in the last week of this term.  This is a valuable opportunity for students to consider their learning progress across terms 1 and 2.  We encourage all families to read through the semester report with their child, celebrating their achievements and considering comments from teachers about how to maintain and improve further academic growth in their studies in semester 2.

We would like to wish all members of our school community a safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to seeing everyone at the start of term 3 feeling refreshed and ready to learn.
