Year 9 The Art of Science
Year 9 and 10 Northcote Model
In the Art of Science there are two units of study, Environmental and Anatomical. In the environmental component, students played with the sharp lines of a nib and the definitive way the tool, created a mark on the page. As the semester progressed students also reflected upon a number of panoramic landscape watercolours, having worked en plein air utilising Merry Creek, just as so many other artists have done in the past. Using watercolour and ink in combination, the students created a number of close up studies of animals or plants. These images were specifically selected by them as resources or reference images which were to be part of the environmental contention they were making.
The students were then asked to create a piece based around a current environmental issue. They could introduce writing, use graphs, and choose to focus on land, sky or water. They just had to make sure to include several close up images and a landscape. They were a wonderful enthusiastic class to work with and have produced some outstanding work.
