Year 7 Visual Art

The overarching theme for Year 7 Visual Art is ‘Identity’, designed to develop students’ understanding of themselves, how they relate to others and the environment around them. There are 2 main units of study: the Archibald Prize and Still Life. In the Archibald Prize, students learned how to draw portraits and capture the personality of the sitter. They created a portrait of a significant person to them and represented them via symbolism and stylisation. It is lovely to see the variety of faces presented in different styles. In Still Life, students reflect on their past, evaluate the present and aspire for the future within their still life arrangement. Due to remote learning, students had to be resourceful with the materials available to them in their own home. Impressively, students were able to create very interesting still life arrangements using personal objects within their own home.
