Principal's report

Dear Parents, Carers, Students and MPWPS Community members,

As you know, we are into the second last week of term. This brings challenges for some of our students who may be feeling a little more tired and ready for a break. This is the time where we have to keep our children resilient. Resilience refers to the ability to manage change to maintain and restore mental health and wellbeing, particularly after an adverse event. Being resilient is associated with better academic performance and school behaviour and, over the longer term, fewer mental health issues and greater life opportunities (including employment and relationships). A child or young person who is resilient might:

  •
    • be optimistic
    • use positive self-talk for encouragement
    • have a positive sense of self
    • identify and express their feelings and thoughts
    • not hide away from strong feelings
    • have helpful, age-appropriate strategies to manage their emotions when upset
    • rearrange their plans to work around an unexpected situation
    • have a sense of agency or responsibility
    • keep on trying if something doesn’t work out and use their judgement about when to stop
    • hold a sense of purpose or hope for the future
    • actively ask for help if they need it

Research suggests there are three major categories which support resilience-building:

  •
    • caring and supportive relationships
    • high-but-achievable expectations of children and young people
    • opportunities for children and young people to participate in the school community.

Movie Night

A BIG thank you to all families who attended the Movie Night last Friday 22nd March.

The super hero Fundraising Team did a great job in organising and running this highly successful night and, on behalf of the school community, I would like to thank the Fundraising Team for their super efforts. The amount raised will be included in next weeks newsletter.

In Kerri's absence

As you know, Kerri and Jarrod (Leading Teacher) are at an EXPO in Brooklyn NYC focussing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

It’s ‘business as usual’ in Kerri’s absence. Our Year 3/4 students are enjoying camp (you can catch all the action on Compass) and our teachers are working hard during this week and next to plan for Term 2. Whilst there are only two weeks of Term 1 to go, there is still plenty of hard work and fun times to be had!

Kind Regards

Barbara Springfield (Assistant Principal - Acting)

Parent Payments

Thank you to our parents/carers who have paid their family payments by the due date of the 15th of March.  There remains a substantial amount of outstanding Parent Payments, including user pays charges for Camp and MVIMP. Family statements will be going home to families and it would be greatly appreciated if these payments an be cleared by the end of Term 1. If you have any questions regarding your account balance or would like to discuss your account, please do so in confidence with the Business Manager, Sandra Monaghan.
