ResourceSmart School Program

This year you may have seen a number of references in the newsletter to the ResourceSmart School Program. Moonee Ponds West Primary joined this free program offered by Sustainability Victoria  about 12 months ago. The Program offers schools practical pathways to reducing resource usage and making financial and environmental savings. It also helps schools integrate sustainability into the curriculum and raise broader community awareness of sustainability related issues.

The Environment Sub-Committee has commenced implementation of the Program this year. To complete the program, we need to undertake 5 modules related to water, waste, biodiversity, energy and a core module.

We’re keen to have lots of people involved in the Program so we can complete it as quickly as possible. There are a number of ways you can get involved, including by joining the Environment Sub-Committee, if you're interested in joining the Environment Sub-Committee or would like to find out more about it, please contact the Office or Alyena Mohummadally.

However, if Committees aren’t your thing, you can also undertake a range of  Program activities of your choice in your own time and at your own pace. Just let the Office or one of the Environment Sub-Committee members know you’re interested- parent contacts are Nigel Toussaint, Bec Romano, Sara Melvin and Nicole Marshall.

Finally, our 50 trees planted near the cricket nets earlier in the year are growing well. To make sure they survive the summer heat, we will need families to keep watering them, preferably in the early morning and late afternoon when the sun is not out.
