School Council 2020

Are you keen to get involved in the school community? Interested in the bigger picture of how MPW is tracking and where it is aiming to be? School Council could be the place for you in 2020!

Each year the opportunity arises for spots on school council. Council has both parent and staff representatives and has an overarching governance role to play in conjunction with the principal who runs the operation of the school with the staff. There are 8 council meetings each year, with members also participating in sub-committees covering Education, Resources (Finance), Environment and Community. Parents not on council are also welcome and encouraged to get involved in the sub-committees as the more voices involved the better.

As you tuck into your Christmas dinner give school council some thought for 2020. The only thing better than having an opinion is having a forum in which to be heard and influence change.

Look out for more detail in the new school year.

School Council meeting 16th December 2019

School Council met on Monday night (16th December) for the final School Council meeting for 2019. The report from the recent Resources subcommittee meeting was reviewed and discussed. No Education, Environment or Community Engagement subcommittee meetings had been held since the last School Council meeting only 3 weeks ago.

Most of the discussion in the evening related to the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) which has been developed and will be reviewed and finalised prior to the first School Council meeting of 2020. This AIP highlights that many educational targets have been achieved to date, but also outlines aspirational plans for the school going forward. School Council discussed and celebrated the successful year that had been and looks forward to numerous exciting activities in the year to come.

School Council would like to wish the MPW School Community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year.

Community Engagement Sub Committee Report

Our newly formed Community Engagement Sub-Committee of School Council meets monthly in the weeks before School Council.  The purpose is to deal with all things Community; discussing aspects of involvement, parent, community participation across the school, and linking Parent Reps to the School Council.  At our last meeting we looked at the Volunteers Policy providing information to update within the cycle.

The Sub-Committee is also wanting to develop a Parent Skills and Volunteers register as  many schools have such a register.  The purpose would be to access the skills and support of the community. Please consider  adding your name and skills to the register.

If you are wanting to be part of the Community Engagement Sub-Committee we meet on a Monday after school (4pm) in Kerri’s Office.  All interested welcome to attend.

Kerri

At present Convenor and Minute-taker.
