TECHNOLOGY

This semester our focus in Design and Technology is on electricity, forces and gravity.
Design and Technology: Hey there, Sparky
Learning Intentions
Students will:
- demonstrate an understanding of how electricity can control movement.
- understand closed and open circuits in the context of engineering a battery powered device.
- understand the characteristics and properties of a range of materials, systems, components, tools, and equipment can be evaluated according to the impact of their use.
- identify and describe competing considerations in the design of battery powered products.
- describe how design and technologies, particularly engineering, contribute to meeting present and future needs.
Design and Technology: Dancing on the Ceiling: an engineering ‘feet’
Learning Intentions
Students will:
• understand that forces control movement in a system, by understanding the impact that the force of gravity has on how we live life on Earth
• describe how forces (gravity) and the properties of materials affect function in a product or system
• identify how animals are experienced engineers with developed biological systems of movement
• identify how engineers have incorporated structures and methods from the living world into products and solutions in the human-made world
• understand the impact gravity has on how we live life on Earth, and how this changes with space travel
• understand the ways that suitability of materials influences design choices and solutions
• understand that our human desire to demarcate directions, such as up and down, impacts how spaces are defined and designed on Earth and in space.
