TECHNOLOGY

This semester our focus in Design and Technology is on electricity, forces and gravity.

Design and Technology: Hey there, Sparky

Learning Intentions

Students will:

  • demonstrate an understanding of how electricity can control movement.
  • understand closed and open circuits in the context of engineering a battery powered device.
  • understand the characteristics and properties of a range of materials, systems, components, tools, and equipment can be evaluated according to the impact of their use.
  • identify and describe competing considerations in the design of battery powered products.
  • describe how design and technologies, particularly engineering, contribute to meeting present and future needs.

Design and Technology: Dancing on the Ceiling: an engineering ‘feet’

Learning Intentions

Students will:

understand that forces control movement in a system, by understanding the impact that the force of gravity has on how we live life on Earth

describe how forces (gravity) and the properties of materials affect function in a product or system

identify how animals are experienced engineers with developed biological systems of movement

identify how engineers have incorporated structures and methods from the living world into products and solutions in the human-made world

understand the impact gravity has on how we live life on Earth, and how this changes with space travel

understand the ways that suitability of materials influences design choices and solutions

understand that our human desire to demarcate directions, such as up and down, impacts how spaces are defined and designed on Earth and in space.
