School Council (SC) Meeting Report – May 2020

Last night we held our first-ever virtual SC meeting via Zoom. We had an opportunity to thank the Principal Team and all CHPS staff on the outstanding support that they have been providing to CHPS families and students during the extensive remote-learning period.  We collectively agreed that the school has excelled in the areas of communication, student and parent engagement, remote online learning, and that there has been a consistent emphasis on health and wellbeing.  Whilst we have been restricted and affected in many ways by COVID-19, we all remain very proud of the school and the amazing staff.  We can’t thank you all enough 😊.

Here are some additional highlights:

  • We welcomed a new DET member to SC:  Bree Jennings, who was co-opted last night.
  • We confirmed all sub-committee members and future meeting dates and times.
  • The confirmed cash budget for 2020 was reviewed by the Finance sub-committee and endorsed by SC. Thanks to Angela Stevens for her work on this and for providing us with such comprehensive financial reports.
  • Christian’s Principal Report reflected on the many impressive changes and adaptations that the school has been through since our last meeting in March. He focused on the valued and exemplary input from CHPS staff in the following areas:
    • Excellence in teaching and learning
    • Community engagement in learning
    • Positive climate for learning
    • Professional development
  • The draft COVID-19 Re-Entry Plan was shared with SC, which provides detailed instruction on how our school will be managing risk relating to Coronavirus (COVID-19) during key interactions between students, parents and staff during the return to school in Term 2, 2020.  Along with staff members, our input is always welcome and considered. The final version has been posted in this newsletter and we encourage families to read this before school starts back.
  • Leigh Dixon and Liam Sommers provided us with an overview of the COVID-19 survey data from both staff and parents. Thanks to all families who completed the survey, as it provides valuable feedback to the school. In this instance, amidst a few suggestions of improvement, the parent survey data was overwhelmingly positive. The results emphasised how well the school and staff have promptly and successfully adjusted to providing our children with a high standard of remote education during these unprecedented times; and, how much families have appreciated their ongoing efforts.

Thanks to the parents, teachers and additional school staff who volunteer their time to participate in SC meetings and sub-committee meetings.

Our next meeting is on June 17th. If you wish to attend as a guest, please email myself (sianjamison@icloud.com) or Christian (holdsworth.christian.p@edumail.vic.gov.au).
