What's Happening at CHPS

Junior Global Education Display

Congratulations Juniors! Your beautiful caterpillars are on display!

In Term 1, the Junior classes explored the topic of 'Keluarga Saya' (My Family). During this topic they all created their own Ulat Keluarga (Family Caterpillar). Their caterpillars are a wonderful representation of our CHPS community.

They were so great that I wanted to create a colourful Global Education display with them for Term 2, and really show them off! Unfortunately, the display of all of their work did not eventuate due to At Home Learning. However, our impressive Global Education Captains, Mariam and Sapphire, helped me to come up with a wonderful solution. We created class PicCollages for the Ulat Keluarga pieces. These PicCollages were posted to each Junior Google classroom on Wednesday 20/5 at 12:45pm.

In order to share their wonderful work with a much bigger audience we are also displaying them here in our Newsletter. I am sure that anyone who sees them will agree, the Juniors all did an amazing job of their caterpillars and should feel really proud of their work!

Hebat Junior students!

Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Croydon Hills is excited to be participating again this year. A new application is being used this year that offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding  students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 4 September 2020.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

Your child’s log in details and a video showing you how to register books your child has read can be accessed through your classroom teacher.
