Principal's report

Greetings Students, Teachers, Parents and Carers, in the community of Moonee Ponds West PS,

Declaring the School Council Election Result

Thank-you to all staff and parents of our community for their diligence in completing this process.  I am particularly pleased with the level of confidentiality and professionalism that all members have demonstrated.  We have four (4) nominations for three (3) positions in the Parent Category.  The Poll closed on Tuesday June 19 and the votes were counted on Thursday June 21 as per the advertised process.   The prescribed Department of Education School Council Election processes were followed, and I declare the following elected to the Parent Category:

 Ben Atchison

 Nigel Keegan

 Lisa Shaw

The newly elected School Council will meet on Monday June 25 for the first School Council meeting. Thank-you to all members of our parent community who put their names forward for this important role.

COMPASS

Yesterday your staff completed their COMPASS training so we can implement from day one Term 3.   I am sure you will find this mode of communication enables all stakeholders to be informed and supportive of school activities and our learning environment. All families will receive their generic login today via a sealed envelope addressed to the parent/carer.  It is important to read the letter and activate the login.  There is a How to Use COMPASS booklet for your guidance. The first task you will be able to complete is changing the login password.  You will be able to book a time for your Parent/Carer/Teacher/Child Interview which are on Wednesday July 25.  The booking aspect of COMPASS will open on Monday June 25.   Please consult the COMPASS Information booklet for this information.

We have been very fortunate to implement this tool for Term 3.  Generally aspects of implementation can be interrupted, but it seems the ‘stars are aligned’ for us to get about our business, and this is a reflection of a dedicated staff, wanting to improve how we go about things, and a forward thinking School Council.  My personal thanks.

Protocols for COMPASS Communication: As we move into the implementation of COMPASS, there is opportunity for communication to all staff and parent members of our community.  For this to be an appropriate communication there will need to be some protocols outlined. The protocols for communication electronically to any member of our community is guided by the Department of Education’s Acceptable Use Policy.  I would add to this, that emails directly to teachers should be during business hours, any other electronic communication outside of these hours should be directed to the Moonee Ponds West school email address or to me  the Principal.   Our general communication process is to acknowledge the email, and then respond within 48 hours of the original correspondence.  The school and Principal’s email address is at the bottom of this Newsletter. Let us see how we can work together within these confines.

Fun Run TODAY

How wonderful it was to see the ‘sea of colour’ running in the local streets. All children were willing participants and actively gave their best! Remembering this is a fundraiser for our school, I urge families to collect their donations and return to school as soon as they can.  We want all donations in by the end of Term 2.  As the children have indicated, the school keeps a percentage and there is a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation this year at the request of the Junior School Council. Well done children.  Thanks to Bree, the class teachers and parent/carer helpers for their support and care for students during this annual school event.

Clean Up-Clean Out

We have a skip in our grounds so that the teachers can Clean Up and Clean Out.  Over the years, we accumulate items that really cannot fit in a normal school bin, are too big to go home, and so we need a skip! I think I have seen the dust flying from certain parts of our school. The skip leaves today (Friday) so I will be scouting for additional items. Again, to those who have been diligent in ensuring that their space is safe and orderly great work!

Well that is about it from me.  Until we meet in person, my best wishes.

Sincerely

Kerri Simpson.
