National Reconciliation Week  27 May – 3rd June

Is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Preceding this week, are National Sorry Day and the 2017 Uluru Statement of the Heart.

The Reconciliation Week start, and end dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey.

May 27th marks the successful 1967 referendum where 94% of registered voters turned out to vote and over 90% endorsed changing the constitution to allow the Commonwealth to make laws for the Aboriginal people and include them in the census.

June 3rd acknowledges the High Court Mabo decision in 1992 that recognised native title of land for indigenous people.

This year’s theme for National Reconciliation Week is “Be a Voice for Generations”.

National Reconciliation week is also an opportunity to learn about shared histories, cultures, and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)

It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience, and confidence.

Moonee Ponds West Primary School is dedicated to the teaching of Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships through the curriculum materials provided by the Department of Education.

Dedicated teaching of the RRRR curriculum promotes respect, positive attitudes and behaviours and provides regular practise for the development of students’ social, emotional, and positive relationship skills.  Areas that are included in the curriculum are: Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths, Positive Coping, Problem Solving and Stress Management.
