Dear parents, carers and friends of the school community,
Attendance
If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by texting the STUDENT ABSENCE mobile 0439 114 197, informing the name of the student, room number and reason for absence.
Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
From the end of Term 2 2018, all Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.
This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
The Jacana School for Autism Attendance Policy, which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is available from the school office or on the school website.
CELEBRATING AUTISM - 2022 JACANARAMA FUN RUN/WALK
We are currently in full swing, preparing for our Annual Community Fun Run/Walk for 2022. As we plan to bring our community together at this public event, a COVIDsafe plan must be in place to keep all staff, students and family members safe.
This community event is scheduled for Wednesday 6th April and marks the importance of collectively celebrating autism awareness. Families and friends are invited to the event and there is an opportunity for students to obtain sponsorship and raise funds for the school. Students always look forward to this opportunity as they can challenge themselves by setting some individual goals for the run/walk.
We encourage the whole family to be involved and enjoy the casual recreational setting out on the school walking track and afterwards enjoy a sausage and drink with staff, friends and family.
We hope you can join us in celebrating autism and the joy that young people on the spectrum bring us.
Autism Awareness – This is looking beyond autism to see the special abilities in all our students.
Unfortunately, orders for the 2022 Jacanarama T-shirts have closed.
Reminder: Unwell students
Each morning when students are getting ready for school, I ask that you be mindful of how your child is presenting. If they/he/she is feeling/looking/ acting unusual or is complaining of being unwell please take them to the doctor. Minimising the cross-infection will assist in reducing the risk of spreading the winter bugs and viruses.
All student absences can be made through the dedicated student absence notification number. Text the student's name, room number and reason for absence.
Make sure you have the student absence notification number saved in your contacts: 0439 114 197
School Council
Notice of Election
A call for further nominations closed on 28th February and I can declare that the DET vacancy has been filled by Denise Clarke and the parent vacancy filled by Angel Sauzier.
We've had a number of enquiries from parents to fill the casual vacancies which is wonderful. Our next meeting is the Annual General Meeting where we will consider all the expressions of interest and confirm the two additional parent representatives.
