Robotics team win

2021-22 First Lego League Robot Competition

Sandringham College students achieve outstanding results!

It's robot season and once again our students volunteered to enter the 2021-22 First Lego League Robot Competition. Due to COVID, teams that were unable to participate in competitions in 2021 were given an opportunity to compete in 2022.

Since the start of the year, our students have been working before school, after school, lunchtimes, and yes, even school holidays to research, build and program EV3 robots with the theme – Cargo Connect.

There are four challenges each team has to complete:

  1. Building and programming a robot to compete a number of challenges
  2. Researching and presenting a project.
  3. Team core values
  4. Robot design and program

On Wednesday 27 April 2022, two teams, Sandy 1 and Sandy 2 competed in a regional Robotic Championships. Exceptional teamwork and improvement throughout the day, saw both teams excel in their 4 challenges. Throughout the competition both teams improved in their robot challenge and presented a confident project to their judges.

  • Sandy 2 - awarded the best robot design and program.
  • Sandy 1 - awarded the highest score of any robot on the day (285 points!)                     AND
  • we were awarded the Overall - Champions Award. Regarded by all teams as the most prestigious award. It recognises the overall excellence a team has performed in all categories.

Congratulations to both teams. Their commitment, attitude, skills and hard work have been rewarded.

A big thank you to Stewart Cunningham (parent), who's help has been invaluable.
