Holloway Road - My time is now...

David Hall, Head of 10-12 Campus

My time is now...

It is often said that the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.  That is all well and good but it is often the last few steps that can prove the most challenging.  Take a look at this video...

Rather than focusing on the overconfident runner at the front, I can't help but marvel at the determination and singlemindedness of the runner who would eventually win the race.  That's what is required as we near the end of high school education for the 2022 cohort.

Goals are rarely linear but they all have increments in common: a starting point; a finish line; successes and failures in the space between.  Where the failures can lead to despondency, the successes, if not taken in context of the overall goal, can cause complacency: I am so far in front that I can relax - I can't be beaten.  The trick is to make both failures and successes positives within the process.

I can see the class of 2022 rising to the occasion.  The fog of the last three years of uncertainty and inconsistent learning patterns is lifting and we are making great progress. Our VCAL class are ready to take on the world, our VCE cohort are primed to best leverage whatever result may come their way in December.

There was a movie in the mid-eighties called St Elmo's fire.  The movie was poor at best but the soundtrack was a little more to my liking. The title track from the film was written by John Parr.  It was about reaching out and seizing the day.  It contained the line: 'my time is now, and I'm coming alive'.

This is your time year 12 - the big dance awaits.

Gangster Granny

This week just past I was lucky enough to see first hand some of the amazing work that Maria Curphey and the graduating VCAL class have done, in conjunction with Bayside City Council, as they teamed up with some of the older members of our broader community and swapped stories.   The exchange was filmed and the results were exceptional.  From a couple fleeing possible persecution abroad , to a Harley riding, so dubbed, 'Gangster Granny', the program highlighted the kindness, the interconnectedness, and the great character of our amazing VCAL grads.

Darcy!

Congratulations to Darcy Keating as he is selected in the Rebels U/19 squad.  This is an elite level of Rugby Union and Darcy is more than holding his own.  Can't wait to watch your progress through the ranks and to perhaps one day see you running around AAMI Park with our Melbourne Rebels.
