Year 9

Djeembana Program

The Djeembana program builds knowledge and understanding through real world problem solving and utilises and extends skills learnt in core subjects.

The Year 9 Djeembana program allows students to participate in a range of life skills activities. The program aims for students to think critically about social issues that impact us as individuals and as a wider community. Students are encouraged to consider a range of different perspectives, provoking deep reflection, problem solving, flexibility, creativity and collaboration. The program culminates in a student led conference in which students present their digital portfolios.

During Term 3, students from 9A & 9B enjoyed exploring budgeting, life skills, self defence, connection to country and social enterprise.

The social enterprise activity run by Project Gen Z enabled students to consider how they could run a business event that would give back to the community. Students were given the opportunity to hear from a real social entrepreneur - Thai Ho, Hochi Mama founder.  We heard how Thai navigated life after school, overcame obstacles and found his passion to change the world. Students were then invited to create business teams solving a real world problem with ideas to launch their own mini social enterprise. The teams built a marketing campaign, and a 30 sec TV commercial which they pitched to the judging panel.

Students also worked with our year 7 students to run an R U OK peer support activity.

We look forward to 9C and 9D participating in the program this term!
