Sports Report

Junior AFL at Royal Park – Thursday 15th July

On this day we were lucky enough to fit in some sport events that were postponed from last term. This day took place on the eve of the current lockdown and was another successful outing for the MGC students involved.

After 3 solid training sessions, Mr. V(CRT), Ms. Wong and Mr. Fero-Kovassy took two competitive teams to Royal Park for the day. The first round saw our two teams play off in a fierce contest where MGC’s A1 team defeated MGC’s A2 team. On all accounts, students enjoyed playing against each other as it was a positive social experience for all. Throughout the day, MGC’s A1 team were undefeated and played Brunswick in the final game and came out on top by a few goals. MGC’s A2 team won 2 out their 4 games and reportedly improved their performances as the day went on. A big thank you to our coaches Esme Keen, Lily Ellis, Liv Cavka and Eva Donnelly for rallying the players in each game. The photos below speak for themselves and unfortunately, I couldn’t fit all 700 of them in the newsletter!

Senior Basketball – Thursday 15th July

The Senior basketball team were lucky enough to fit in their sport event as well. The group did well to be represented on the day after starting with only 4 players two days earlier. A huge thank you to our 7 players - Molly McPhee (year 12), Beyoncé Wigg (year 12), Bianca Lidano, Hayley Cumming, Olivia Dunning, Hannah Benhassine, and Claire Harrison for coming to Coburg for the day. We played SEDA college, Brunswick, Princes Hill and Uni high and beat all teams comprehensively. All players represented the school with great sportsmanship, and we look forward to the next round on August 24th. A big thanks to Ms. Crosswhite who drove the team to the event and coached them with her expertise.
