Prep Guy

It was fantastic to meet so many parents on Parent Teacher interview night last week to celebrate all of the amazing accomplishments the students have made. Please remember my door is always open to you. You do not need to wait to come in and see your child's outstanding work or have a chat.

On Monday we enjoyed another buddy sessions with our Grade 5/6 friends. We listened to The Rainbow Serpent and made serpents of our own. We also had our first Kindergarten visit with a tour of our fantastic school and a healthy treat from the canteen. Thank you to Tracey for organising our delicious watermelon treat.

Over the past two weeks we have continued our work on fiction texts and their characteristics such as having to read them in order, recognising the setting and characters plus retelling the beginning, middle and end of our texts in Reading. We have worked on reading like we talk; fluently and expressively also and revisited all our decoding strategies to work out unknown words. Please remember your child should be reading to you every night/ or morning to help them build confidence when reading in front of their group each morning.

In Writing / Spelling we have worked on adding details to our pictures and labelling to help us get our thoughts organised to write more interesting sentences with some students writing compound sentences with the correct use of commas and adjectives! This week we began learning about exposition writing which is writing trying to persuade someone. I am having a lot of fun persuading my students that Carlton is the best team!

In Maths we have continued our work on making equal groups, learning how to skip count by 2s to find out how many all together. We also collected data on our Grade's favourite colour and used this data to make a graph in the computer room.

We are all very excited to be dressing up as our favourite book character for Book Week on Wednesday the 23rd of August. Remember to bring in your book too.

We welcome Miss Adams into our classroom for the next four weeks. Kacie is studying to be a teacher at Swinburne University and is completing her final placement with us.

In the coming weeks we are going to be making a diorama about minibeasts. If you have any spare shoe boxes or boxes that are empty could you please donate them to Prep Guy as we are making the minibeast of the students' choice and its habitat.

Prep Guy's Students of the week

Last week the class chose Fletcher M as their Star of the week. Students voted for Fletcher because they said he is very respectful, treating others the way he would like to be treated, he is responsible, doing the right thing and he is resilient, working his way through challenging tasks.

This week the class voted Billy as their Student Of The Week. The students said Billy was respectful at all times, showing one of our school values, he is kind sharing his special jobs with his friends and he tries hard showing our school value of being responsible.

Well done; we are very proud of you both.

Gardening Cooking Club

This week in Gardening Cooking Club we planted some plants that were donated to us by Wendy Talbot- thank you Wendy. We also made a scarecrow to put in the vegie garden and pulled out some weeds.
