Strength in numbers
Dividing the task, multiplying success
I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated Numeracy Team at Cecil Hills High School for their outstanding efforts in driving significant improvement among Stage 4 students through the Numeracy Sprint Initiative. This initiative, which focused on measurement and decimals in Term 2, 2023, has proven to be instrumental in enhancing students' mathematical skills and confidence.
Over the course of eight weeks, the Numeracy Sprints Initiative has effectively measured the growth of Year 7 and 8 students in these key areas. The team implemented pre and post tests to assess students' progress accurately. This data-driven approach has allowed us to track students' improvement and tailor our teaching strategies accordingly. Here's a glance at the results:
Additionally, we are excited to introduce the Numeracy Question Decoder Resource, a valuable tool that equips students with a structured framework to tackle complex word problems. Following a successful trial in Term 2, where Year 7 students demonstrated success in utilising this resource, we eagerly anticipate sharing it with the rest of Stage 4 in the upcoming term.
I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr Nathan Lee, Ms Noor Naim, Mr.Mark Slobozian, and Mr Robeson Burns for their invaluable contributions to our initiatives this term. Their dedication and expertise have significantly enhanced the learning experience of our students.
Furthermore, I extend our appreciation to the Head Teachers, Mr Thomas Cordin, Mr Jason Brame, Mr Daniel Carrozza, Mr Sean Griffiths, and Ms Belinda Truong, for their support of this team. Their buy-in have been vital in ensuring the success of our numeracy programs.
I thank Joel Howard for his unwavering support throughout the last two terms.
Finally, I thank our Connect teachers, Stage 4 year advisers, and their year patrons for ensuring the smooth delivery of the Numeracy Sprints Initiative.
As we look ahead to Term 3, we are excited to continue our work in empowering students with essential numeracy skills and fostering their growth in numeracy. With the continued support of our Numeracy Team and across the school, we are confident that we will witness even more remarkable achievements in the months to come.
