5/6 have Sport on Tuesday and Friday.

Year 4 have Sport on Wednesday and Friday.

These are the only days they are required to wear their runners. Please ensure students are wearing the correct St Joseph’s uniform.

Reading diaries are due at school:

  • 4 Shaw on Monday
  • 5/6 Butters on Friday

Literacy

Reading is a huge focus throughout the 4/5/6 area and the students practise different forms of reading each day. Reading rotations, Buddy reading and quiet reading happen daily. Daily writing has produced some interesting stories and retells. Our focus genre is writing narratives.

Numeracy

The unit, Length, Area and Volume has been introduced this week and will continue for a couple of weeks. We have been looking at the different vocabulary you find whilst working on the Maths topic. We also continue with daily fluency tasks which continue to involve Place Value. We also continue a daily focus on times tables and addition fluency.

Inquiry

We have looked at the three levels of government this week. I have been in contact with Helen Haines office and I am hopeful she may be able to visit us at St Joseph’s to discuss democracy.

The Year 4 students are investigating the unit, ' First Contact'. We have discussed what we already know about this subject.

Last week the Year 4 students created their own ‘love tokens’ based on what we have learnt about the convicts on the First Fleet. The students learnt about artefacts and that they are made by hummus and create history for future generations to discover and learn more about the past. We discussed the resilience and persistence the convicts displayed during this very difficult time.

Religion

The 5/6 class have created a lovely display of their Creation photographs. Students were tasked with taking a few words from Genesis to go with their photographs. When you are in the office, please take a look.

This week, the Year 4 students have continued learning about the unit, ‘The Circle of Life’. They have learnt that during our lives there are many highs and lows. This may look different for individuals.

We have created our own timelines and pinpointed significant times that have occurred in our lives.

Have a great week everyone!
