Around the Traps - Foundation/1

Bianca Vescio / Markeeta Green

Literacy

In Literacy this week we have been learning the sounds, /n/ /o/ and /p/ in Foundation, and /sh/ and /ch/ in Grade 1. Our mentor text for writing this week is Who Sank the Boat by Pamella Allen. We have been thinking about the features of a story and writing about the characters and setting of the story. We will also practise retelling the story at the end of the week.

Maths

Foundation

This week in Maths we are learning about 2D Shapes. We were shape detectives and searched for 2D in the classroom and outside.

Grade One

Students have continued to practise skip counting in a range of ways. We have been solving puzzles and playing both partner and whole class games to practice this skill.

Inquiry

We have continued to learn about growing older this week. We learnt that to grow older and stay healthy in our minds and bodies, we must eat healthy food. Students were introduced to the ‘Australian Guide to Healthy Eating’ and we learnt about the five different food groups. It was great to hear students making connections on foods they have been eating in the classroom and what food group it falls into.

RE (Religious Education)

With Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday this week, we have been learning about the reasoning behind why we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. We have also been learning about the importance of giving to others. We read ‘The Giving Tree’ and drew pictures of what students could offer to others to help them in some way.
