Catholic Identity

Dear Families,

Let us Pray….

                 Come, Holy Spirit!

                 Calm my mind.

                 Come, Holy Spirit!

                 Touch my heart.

                 Come, Holy Spirit!

PENTECOST SUNDAY

"As the Father sent me, so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit."

Year C | Sunday 5th June | red

Preparing to hear God's Word

Jesus changed the world!

We can change the world too if we follow Jesus.

Pentecost reminds us to be people of energy, enthusiasm, and imagination!

The Gospel Story

On the day of Pentecost the disciples were all together in one place. All of a sudden, Jesus appeared in the room with them. He gave them the gift of the Holy Spirit and sent them into the world to continue his work of healing and forgiving people.

The Gospel

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John  20:19-23

As the Father sent me, so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit.

The disciples were afraid of the Jewish leaders,

and on the evening of that same Sunday

they locked themselves in a room.

Suddenly, Jesus appeared in the middle of the group.

He greeted them and showed them his hands and his side.

When the disciples saw the Lord,

they became very happy.

After Jesus had greeted them again, he said,

"I am sending you, just as the Father has sent me."

Then he breathed on them and said,

"Receive the Holy Spirit.

If you forgive anyone's sins,

they will be forgiven.

But if you don't forgive their sins,

they will not be forgiven."

The Gospel of the Lord.                            Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflecting on the Gospel Story….

People who are filled with a joyful energy attract others.

As disciples of Jesus we are called to inspire and motivate people so that together we can achieve great things. What fills you with energy? What marvellous things would you like to achieve in your life?

WHAT IS NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK?

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

27th May to 3rd June  commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

27 May 1967 On this day, Australia’s most successful referendum saw more than 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise them in the Census.

3 June 1992  On this day, the Australian High Court delivered the Mabo decision, the culmination of Eddie Koiki Mabo’s challenge to the legal fiction of ‘terra nullius’ (land belonging to no one) and leading to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of lands. This decision paved the way for Native Title.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

Last year Reconciliation Australia encouraged all Australians to take action; not just in National Reconciliation Week but every week of the year.

We saw unprecedented response to our suggested actions for everyday and for braver action.

This year we are asking everyone to make change beginning with brave actions in their daily lives – where they live, work, play and socialise.

National Reconciliation Week—27 May to 3 June—is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This Winter Appeal provides emergency relief and specialised services to families and individuals at-risk and experiencing homelessness. Your donation will help our frontline team rebuild lives.

To carry out our Appeal this year we will be looking for all your support in a number of ways. Firstly, we will ask for certain goods to be donated. Classes will be asked to donate the following goods throughout the month of June:

F/1:   Breakfast goodies                       Grade 2:   Healthy lunch box goodies

Grade 3/4: Dinner goodies                 Grade 5/6: Personal Care Items

Secondly, the Catholic Identity team are keen to run ‘Warm Milo’ at morning breaks to raise funds for St Vincent DePaul.

More information will be in the school newsletter and the Catholic Identity team will give you regular updates throughout June.

We will end our Appeal on June 24th with the Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass and a presentation of donations to St Vincent de Paul.

Have a great week!

GOD BLESS
