Principal's Report

Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 4. I would like to start by thanking each and every student, teacher and community member who have made me feel so welcome. From morning drop off to afternoon pickup, it has been great to connect with the Girraween community. Over the last four weeks, I have had an opportunity to visit many classrooms, see exceptional work and even challenge the students in handball games. I have enjoyed weekly assemblies, I have met our exceptional P&C and celebrated World Teacher's Day. I look forward to many continued positive experiences to come.

Kiss and Drop

Thank you to everyone for the improved conditions at Kiss and Drop. It is important to remember that you can't stop your car for more than 2 minutes and you must be within 3m of your car at all times. All cars must move up to the furthest spot to ensure traffic flow. We are very impressed with children building independence by preparing to exit the car, once stopped. They are now able to confidently walk into school, independently. We look forward to your continued cooperation.

Menstrual hygiene program

This program has been introduced by

NSW Department of Education in every NSW public school. As part of the program, schools have received dispensers that provide free pads for students to access during school hours. Our menstrual hygiene program aims to reduce any barriers that may prevent students from participating fully in school life. Menstruation (and its unpredictability) may stop students from attending school or taking part in learning activities. There are also known health risks from using improvised sanitary hygiene products. The program has been successfully trialled in 31 schools, with positive feedback received from Principals and students alike. It is now time to introduce the program at our school.

Application to travel

From the beginning of 2015, NSW Dept Of Education mandated that family holidays and travel are no longer considered under the Exemption from School - Procedures. Travel outside of vacation period is now counted as an absence and will appear on your child's report. Families are encouraged to holiday or travel during school vacations.

A few reminders

  • Students cannot be dropped off to school before 8:30am. In 2023 all school gates will be locked until 8:30am. Your child's safety and supervision is your responsibility before this time.  Before school care is available with Camp Australia.
  • Pick up is at 3pm. If you arrive late, you must park your car and are required to sign your child out from the school office. Continual lateness may result in a discussion with myself or the Deputy Principals. After school care is readily available from Camp Australia and other providers in the area.
  • Hats are a compulsory part of the school uniform. As per our current school rules and the sun safe policy, all children must wear a hat or they will be directed to a shaded area. Hats are available from the uniform shop.

Once again, thank you for such a warm welcome to Girraween Public School. I look forward to meeting many more parents at our Term 4 events.
