Grade 3 & 4 Camp

Last week, Monday – Wednesday, the 3/4 students went on an amazing trip to PGL Adventure Camp. We did awesome activities and had a ball. We hope you enjoy reading our spectacular ‘Camp Personal Narratives’ written by Room 18 students.

HAUNTED CABINS

My hands quivered as I touched the cold icy metal. I twisted the door knob. A shiver down my spine was felt as the door creaked open. I could see the light switch. The lights flickered as kids asked nervously if it was a ghost. I could feel my heart thumping. This was going to be a good night in this creepy cabin, I thought to myself.

Everybody turned white, as if they’d seen a ghost. My eyes were wide open absorbing everything in sight. I thought to myself, but didn’t dare say, ….. this place is haunted.

After dinner it was time to go back to that ‘haunted cabin’. My whole cabin snuggled into their soft, puffy and warm sleeping bag as if they didn’t want to be seen. The lights were off but torches were on. I wanted to sleep but I felt like a kangaroo. Finally I fell asleep.

In the morning we all awoke from our slumber. PGL Adventure Camp is something I will never forget.

FLYING FOX

“Next!” yelled the instructor Lilly. My partner and I walked up to the zipline squeezing our loose harnesses. Kids could be heard cheering as wasps buzzed around me while Lilly tightened my harness. I felt a shiver down my spine as I gripped my harness like it was my only chance to survive. It was just a normal school day for some, but for 3/4's it was so different. Why? Because we were on a PGL Adventure Camp.

“ 3, 2, 1, Go!” yelled Lilly. I hesitated for a second and then found the courage to take the biggest leap of my life. My partner and I glided down as the zipline moved at the speed of light. As we got closer to the end, our grins turned to a frown. We were sad it was all over. I doubt I’ll ever regret doing that, I thought to myself.

ANTS IN THE CABIN

Slam! A whole group of people rushed into the cabins. “I call top!” I yelled as I threw my bag onto my bed. Musty and dusty smells filled the air. Anna creaked the door open. “You have half an hour to get ready for bed before we do wacky races”, she says.

Walking back from wacky races, thoughts were running through my head like…Would I have a good night sleep? “Into bed” Robyn yells. Laying in my sleeping bag I could start to hear kids whispering. After a while I finally dozed off from all that noise.

Early morning, a bright light filled my eyes. Thump! I hear as I jumped off the bunk. Excited kids fill the bathroom. Then a sudden scream entered my ears. “ANTS!” I heard Sophie yell. Tiny marching gentlemen ants filled the bottom of the shower.

After all that commotion we got ready and ran to the hall to start our activities for the day.

FLYING FOX SCARE

I could see the zipline over the lake. It was the longest flying fox I’ve ever seen. I was at my 3/4 camp with my friends. The strong wind was blowing my face off. The metal from the handle was rough in my hands. I was SCREAMING LOUDLY because I am scared of heights. But then, I got stuck! The wind stopped me and I was dangling over the lake. But the teachers pulled me to safety. After that we had dinner. The pasta was tasty and delicious! Desert was better because it was chocolate ice cream.

CABIN PARTY

“I call top bunk!” I yell as I chuck my heavy sleeping bag on the bunk. Then the rest of my cabin walk in. “Whoa!’ they say harmoniously. “I know right?!” I reply. The last person in our cabin walks in, Anika, and places her stuff right underneath me.

This was the first PGL Adventure Camp I’ve ever been on and I was already feeling at home. I chuck myself onto my bed. “Ahh…” I say tiredly. “30 second dance party!!!” someone yells. I bolt out of my bed. “What was that?” I pant. “It’s me!” Peppa replies. “Well what?” she said. “30 second dance party!” we all yell. I busted out all of my silly moves. I was already excited for that night!

A few hours later it was time for bed. “Good night everyone” I say. I felt ready and prepared for tomorrow. I felt my cabin was too. Go PGL!

News from the Assistant Principal

NAPLAN 2023

Congratulations to all our Year 3 and 5 students for completing the suite of NAPLAN tests over the past couple of weeks. These national assessments occur yearly for students in years 3, 5, 7 & 9. Our students are to be commended on their calm and committed approach to NAPLAN, with Year 3 students experiencing NAPLAN for the first time. Results of NAPLAN are distributed later in the year, and regardless of result type, we are proud of how our students approached these assessments. Well done!

Harmony Day

On Tuesday the 21st of March we recognised Harmony Day, by wearing a splash of orange, the colour chosen to represent this day. Together with other organisations, communities, and schools we recognised Harmony Day, celebrating and reflecting on our state’s diverse multicultural communities.

Junior School Council 2023

Recently, we met with the 2022 JSC representatives to acknowledge and thank them for their work in 2022. We also asked students for their feedback on their JSC experience. Supporting JSC are Amanda, Stefania, and Sophie. Jarrod also joined this meeting to thank students and to provide feedback as to how their contributions have helped to shape new learning and play spaces.

Based on this feedback from students, views from our Engagement and Wellbeing team, and direction within our SSP, we have recently launched our 2023 JSC program. Elections for class representatives are currently taking place, with these to be completed by the last week of term. Each class will have two representatives who will take part in forums and help make decisions that shape our school environment and learning experiences. We look forward to sharing more JSC news in Term 2.
