News from Foundation

What a wonderful start to Term 2 we have made! The Foundation students have been so busy getting back into the swing of things at school and have absolutely been loving being back!

Inquiry

In this Term in Inquiry, we are exploring sustainability. One of the major projects that we wish to get up and running this term is the Veggie Garden. Before covid-19, we had a fantastic veggie garden with chickens as well. We are looking forward to getting it going again and learning about how things grow as well as how to take care of them. We will also be planting veggies and attending to the garden for the remainder of the year. On Friday 26th May, from 3-5pm, we will have a working bee to fix the veggie garden up a bit before we can start planting. We would love as many people as possible to come and help us if you have time!

So far for our Sustainability unit, we have explored what our senses feel when we go outside. We looked for things, felt, listened for, and smelled things. Today we went for a walk and saw lots of mushrooms and ants! We have also learnt some things that we can do to be sustainable such as throwing things in the bin and donating clothes.

Wilam- A Birrarung Story

Last week in Inquiry, we also explored what an environment is. We looked at this wonderful Indigenous story about the Yarra River.

We then drew pictures of what we thought the Yarra River looked like and what we knew about the Yarra River. We used the images and artwork in the story to inspire the animals and nature we drew.

Information for next week

We will present and lead our whole school assembly on Monday at 2:15pm! We would love you to all come along and see all the great things that we have been doing!

On Tuesday, we have our photo trail excursion at Maroondah Dam. Please check out Operoo and fill out the permission form as soon as possible. Students will need to be at school for a 9 am departure. They will wear full sports uniforms and may wish to bring a coat as it gets cold there. Students only need to bring a small bag with their lunchbox and a water bottle. If you have completed the Parent Helpers Course, have a current WWCC, signed the Parent Code of Conduct, and wish to come along and help, please email me at rheenan@sjyarrajunction.catholic.edu.au

I hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day!
