VCE Theatre Studies

Unit 1 Showcase

In week 2 of this term, students in the VCE Theatre Studies Unit 1 class performed a showcase of the work they had completed in the first semester. This comprised of scenes from Ancient Greek Theatre, devised comic pieces from Commedia dell'Arte, and explorations of Melodrama. In addition, several students presented their Mood Boards and pitched their ideas for interpreting characters through costume, hair & make-up and prop design. These tasks were all structured to prepare students for next year's Unit 3 performance and Unit 4 monologue examination.

Students ran the entire evening - operating all technical aspects, stage managing the evening, creating the program and writing their own speeches to introduce each performance item. We were grateful to have a lovely responsive audience who laughed along and had positive praise for the hardworking cohort of students.

Congratulations, Unit 1 students, on a highly entertaining evening!

MATILDA update

Rehearsals for the college production continue this term with increased fervour and more hours of rehearsal including the addition of Sundays as we near the production season in September.

MUSICAL BAND

The band have been practising and working hard to bring the intricate score to life. It's been wonderful to see students learning new instruments and expanding their skills base under the guidance of our Musical Director, Mr Tim Clifton.  It's always lovely to welcome back alumni to help support the band too.

ACTING, DIRECTION & CHOREOGRAPHY

Our very talented cast of actors have been busy, learning lines and running scenes, strengthening their voices and exploring creative possibilities in rehearsal. Almost all of the scenes have been blocked and are in the process of being refined. It is wonderful to watch the students support and encourage one another, the creative risks that they take and the friendships they are building across the year levels.

Our Director of Choreography, Ms. Prue Slingsby, has been supporting a talented team of student choreographers to create some really captivating pieces for the production. Stephanie McNally (Dance Captain) Tamalyn Davies and Bailey Bliss have all choreographed dances for the show - these ensemble pieces are challenging and ensure we  keep our cast fit!

DESIGN

Behind the scenes, an array of parents and volunteers have held sewing bees and set construction bees to source, make and adapt over a hundred costumes and build  a complex set that captures the vision for the show. We are very grateful for their donated items, their time and energy, their problem solving skills and their passion for helping us all to create a show with high production values.

CREW

Our crew haven't been required much thus far but it's about to get very busy for them as we start to teach them all of the backstage aspects of putting a production together, inclusive of lighting, sound, props tracking, set changes, make-up application, mic swapping and more!

REMINDER TO PARENTS:

If your son or daughter is in the cast, crew or band, please continue to support them in organising their time effectively to manage their studies and maintain their wellbeing.

The Production team regularly remind students to stay hydrated, bring snacks to maintain energy levels and bring school work to complete as they will have some lengthier breaks during rehearsals going forward.

Music Lunchtime Concerts

In the Canteen area of Holloway Campus, students have thoroughly relished the opportunities to perform to their peers. They have presented an array of solo pieces and group work and these have been well-received.    Performances have helped VCE students rehearse and refine their skills in preparation for their exams.
