Footsteps of Frederic

Excitedly, 2020 graduate Mia Kilfoyle has been selected to be a part of the 2021 Footsteps of Frederic Program, which is a year-long leadership and formation experience with the St Vincent de Paul Society for secondary school graduates.

Mia has been a very active member of the Trinity Social Justice Group, involving herself all opportunities that come her way. Mia has utilised her energy and enthusiasm to continually help others and live our school mission of valuing Catholic Ethos, Community and Social Justice.

We were keen to hear a little about her upcoming adventure below and wish Mia all the very best.

I’m super excited to be apart if the Footsteps for Frederic program next year and have the ability to extend my love of social justice further! With the year we have had, myself and a lot of Year 12’s alike have found it disheartening that we haven’t been able to fundraise or raise awareness for important causes - but hopefully next year will be a catalyst for recovery in the Colac community. The Footsteps of Frederic program aims to for young people to have a strong development in their leadership skills and to understand how they can be of benefit to their own community. The basic framework of the program consists of 4 areas:

  • Compassionate Service - which includes volunteer work
  • Innovation - planning a project to help those in need
  • Learning and Reflecting - about our own leadership qualities and how to improve ourselves
  • Relationships and Leading others - taking on a leadership role within the Vinnies community

Over the next few months, we are having our induction session with the leaders of program and the other participants, and later having our retreat to Box Hill. The retreat is something that all of us are looking forward to, as we meet the people that we are going to be working alongside and with whom we hopefully create change within our own communities. I am stoked to have been accepted into the program and cannot wait to complete it throughout 2021!

Mia.
