From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we have had to brave some cold starts in the morning but have been blessed with sunny weather later in the day. We are also embracing some World Cup fever, with the Matildas progressing to the semi-final this week against England.  It was great to see so many students and staff embracing a touch of green and gold as part of their uniform dress on Wednesday.

Car Park Awareness

This is a reminder that Gate 2 Entry to the school site is for staff, courier deliveries and disabled access only.  Drop off and pick up of students should be done via Gate 4 entrance with the option to park in any available car parks on the East side of the car park or use the marked drop\pick up zone.

Emergency Management Practice

This week, we will conduct an emergency management practice drill with all students and staff onsite.  This is an important activity to familiarise the students with how to respond in the event of an emergency.  If you are visiting the school site during the time of the practice, you may be directed to a safe location as part of the exercise.

During Week Nine of this Term, the school will conduct parent-teacher conversations on Tuesday, 5th September and Thursday 7th September from 2:30pm each day.  These conversations are offered as face-to-face meetings or online video conferences.

Please note whilst the school will finish formal classes at 2:30pm. There will be formal supervision will be provided for students who can't be picked up from school until 3:15pm.  A separate form to register for this supervision will be shared closer to the date.

AFL Football Year 5\6 team divisional runners up.

Over the last couple of weeks our Year 5\6 AFL team has progressed through several stages of our interschool sport competition. It has been a great effort to get this far through the competition, and students should be congratulated for their amazing efforts.  Many thanks to the parents who supported our team through the days of competition.  Thanks to George Azzam and Shane Oldfield for their coaching and sideline support on game days.

Canteen appreciation - Calls for Term 4 volunteers

Thanks to our amazing canteen volunteers, we have a great restart campaign of the Canteen this term.

We are currently putting together the Term Four Roster, so I strongly encourage and invite school families and friends to consider volunteering for the canteen roster.

We really appreciate any time that can be given to ensure this much-loved experience for the students can continue.

Please contact the school office if you can assist.

Staff News

This week Jacinta Menere, Year Four teacher, announced that she and husband Ryan, are expecting their first child.  On behalf of the St Simon’s community, we congratulate Jacinta and Ryan on this exciting news.  At this stage, Jacinta will continue her role in Year Four until the end of the school year.

This week Hedy Carvalho and Monica Rayner are attending the Eastern Region Catholic Primary Deputy Principal Conference on Thursday and Friday.

Starting this Friday and following through to next week, I will attend the Outer East Catholic Primary principal network’s indigenous immersion experience in Cape York.

I look forward to sharing my experience and plans to strengthen our indigenous perspectives throughout our school community and curriculum.
