PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Last Monday, we held our Semester 2 Parent/Teacher interviews. We like to take this opportunity to meet with our parents/guardians as effective communication between our families and teachers is extremely important to build a good working relationship between home and school.

GARDEN CLUB COMPOST

Our Garden Club have been hard at work tending to our school garden. Last week Mrs Foster built a compost structure for the garden. The students have been adding their fruit scraps to the compost along with recycled shredded paper, donated coffee grounds from Yield and plant clippings. An onsite compost here at school is a great way to replenish the soil in our garden to produce healthier plants.

Donations

We are also seeking to expand our garden to include some vibrant agapanthus plants. If any of our families or community have agapanthus bulbs in their garden at home that they would like to divide and donate to our Garden Club we would greatly appreciate it. Any donations of hay or straw would also be beneficial to our garden.

HEADSPACE PRESENTATION

Last Wednesday, Ms Fiona Kelly from Headspace in Tamworth visited our School to meet with our Stage 3 students. Headspace is a government funded service for 12 to 25 year olds who require support with mental health, physical health, work and study.

During this session, Ms Kelly highlighted the laws and dangers associated with smoking, specifically e-cigarettes also known as vaping, and energy drinks such as Prime Hydration. She listed the hazardous chemicals and the lasting damage that these chemicals can cause to young bodies and developing brains. Ms Kelly explained that energy drinks are classed as stimulants, with high levels of caffeine. Lastly, they discussed the strategies used by organisations to promote these products including using highly paid influencers to endorse them. This makes these products appeal to adolescents and younger, even though these products are not suitable or in the case of e-cigarettes legal, for them to use.

MADD NIGHT PERFORMANCE

A huge thank you to Narrabri High School for inviting our Years 5 and 6 students to attend their MADD Night matinee concert last Wednesday. The students we engaged and entertained by the outstanding musical themed performances. A show well done!

PRINCIPAL'S MEETING

Last week Mr Baird attended the Term 3 Principal’s Meeting in Coffs Harbour. Principals within the Diocese come together once a term to attend the three day meeting and take part in a variety of informative sessions. The key topic for the plenary session was ‘leadership for change’ which was presented by CSO Director, Mr Chris Smyth.
