Grade 5 Snapshot

 Dear Parents,

Well done on surviving two weeks of Home Learning! We appreciate all of your support with helping your child complete their work and continuing their learning. We understand that motivation can waiver in these difficult times and we ask you to talk to your child regularly about how they are feeling and take on board Sonya Branca's advice on focusing on the present and what you have to look forward to today. Try not to worry about the past or what will happen in the future. Be grateful for what you have now.

We have really enjoyed running mini lessons/tutorials during our Google Meets each morning this week. This allows the explicit teaching of the skills and strategies that are most important for the students going forward in their learning. It also provides a great opportunity for us to target learning and content to the specific areas of need for your child. One other great thing about Google Meets is it allows the students to receive immediate, real time feedback on their learning which is important.

We are very proud of the Grade 5 students and how they have taken on this challenging time with a growth mindset. They are asking questions when they need to seek clarification but have also shown great independence to try and solve some of their problems by themselves. Students have also shown what a caring and kind cohort they are by helping each other with technical issues or answering each others questions on Google Classroom.

Don’t forget this week’s snapshot is telling you about what the students will be learning for the coming week. We have also shared with you some of the great examples of work the students completed in our second week of Home Learning.   Thank you for all your support so far, please continue to send us feedback via your child’s teacher. We will continue reflecting on the processes of home learning to make it the best possible experience for our students.
