Mr Hyatt

SHOW

GOOD LUCK to all of our children & families who have entered items & events in this years Show. When I went to the show last year, I was very proud to see that a large number of students from St Patrick's took out a lot of the major prizes in a number of categories. This year, I am looking forward to see the talents of our students again and I wish everyone the best of luck! I wish I was talented as all of you (especially in the cooking section!).

P & F

Our next P & F Meeting is Tuesday 15th March at 6pm via ZOOM.

Invitations have been sent out to all of our school members. Please feel free to join us.

Life Education Visits

This Thursday we will have our first visit from Life Education. Due to ventilation protocols related to COVID, the sessions will take place in the classrooms instead of the Healthy Harold van. One session will be conducted this Thursday 17th March, while the other sessions will take place on Tuesday 22nd March.

Parent Teacher Interviews Yr 1-6

Next week, week 8 & the following week, week 9 the teachers would like to meet with parents for Parent Teacher Interviews  to discuss how students have settled into school and set individual goals for 2022.

I would like to thank all of the parents who have already booked in their interview time via the COMPASS app. It is very much appreciated. If you haven't booked an interview as yet, there are still a few interview windows open. Please do this as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Year 5-6 Canberra Excursion

Late last week I met with the principal of St Joseph's Primary, Uralla. Everything has been finalised and now we need to start working out how many students and teachers will be taking part in the Year 5-6 Major Excursion to Canberra. We will be leaving on Monday 12th September and returning back to Walcha on Friday 16th September. We are planning to stay at the Canberra Park Resort and it looks like it is going to be an action packed week. Some of the various activities we plan to take part in is: zone bowling, exploring the Royal Australian Mint, test our sporting skills at the Australian Institute of Sport, having a tour of Parliament House as well as testing our scientific skills at Questacon and many more. An initial letter of intention was sent out to our Year 5 and 6 families earlier in the week.

Music Update

We have been very blessed, as the school has just been given ten violins. A big thank you goes out to Mrs Mackson for obtaining the violins for us. Hopefully, in the very near future, we can add a string section to our school band!

NAPLAN 2022 Dates

Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will take part in this year’s National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) on the following dates:

  • NAPLAN 2022 online test window: 10–22 May

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is held in May each year for Year 3 and Year 5 students. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.

Online Naplan Practise Assessment

As mentioned last week, our Year 3 and 5 students will be taking part in an online NAPLAN Practise Assessment. This assessment is designed to assist schools in preparing for the upcoming NAPLAN Assessment that will be held in early May to ensure that we don't encounter any difficulties during this period. The results from this practise test will not be released as this is a dummy run, so the students have familiarised themselves with the outline of the program as well as the various tools that they will need to use to complete this assessment. Both of our Year 3 and 5 students will be having a number of opportunities to prepare for this assessment in the classroom. If some students/parents would like to start preparing for either of these assessments, please click on the link below.
