Reflection

During Lent the church asks adults to pray, fast and give alms. Alms are gifts to the poor. Fasting means eating less than usual. Catholics over the age of fourteen are asked not to eat meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Young people can share the spirit of fasting by giving up something they enjoy, like sweets or junk food or television. They can do good works like offering to do extra jobs around the house or by giving part of their pocket money to people in need. These are called sacrifices. They are good deeds, done in God's name, that show our love of God and sorrow for sins.

Lent has many traditions. We notice the colour purple in our churches. We stop singing the 'Alleluia' chant until Easter when we rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus. During Lent we try to become more prayerful to make our lives simpler and to share what we have with those who are in need. One special way we can give alms is to donate to Project Compassion.

Prayer

Loving God,

Help us to work together

to share what we have

so that everyone has what they need.

Help us to build a better world

where each of us can become the best person we can be.

Amen.

First Reconciliation

We pray for the nine students who have just commence their preparation program in order to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. These students will continue to take part in their preparation lessons every Tuesday for their Religious Education lesson. Our students will receive their First Reconciliation after Mass on Friday 1st April.

Sacrament Dates for 2022

2022 First Reconciliation Date has been set for our Catholic students in Years 2 and 3 for Friday 1st April 2022.

2022 First Eucharist Date has been set for our Catholic students in Year 3 for Sunday 19th June 2022.

St Patrick's Day

Next Thursday the 17th March we will be celebrating  the Feast of St Patrick. The whole school community will be celebrating Mass at 11.30am. You are definitely welcome to come and join us.

Also the children are invited to come to school dressed in green clothing and bring a gold coin donation for the Lismore Diocese Flood Appeal.

Mini Vinnies are organising activities for the 17th to help the school celebrate the school Feast Day.

  • There will be a 'green theme' food platter available for students to select from at recess and lunch.
  • Something new this year, where at lunch time there will be a golf ball scavenger hunt with a special prize awarded to the student who can find the very rare and precious 'foot print' golf ball!

CARITAS-Project Compassion

This Lent, let us consider how we can ensure that we work ‘for all future generations' around the world.

Together, we can make a difference now, and For All Future Generations.

By giving what you can this Lent, you will help transform the lives of people like Anatercia. Anatercia is 12. She lives with her brother, mother and elderly grandparents in a small hut in southern Mozambique. Like many rural communities, Anatercia’s village has no electricity, hospital, secondary school or supermarket.

Watch her story and see how her life has changed, thanks to people like you.
