Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was wonderful to see everyone back at school and ready to go for another great year at St FX this morning! The holiday break certainly went very quickly but it is always fantastic to begin a new school year full of excitement and new challenges. 

Our school has grown significantly over the six weeks since we were last together. This year we have 12 classes; three Kindergarten, three Stage 1, three Stage 2 and three Stage 3 classes. It also means we are using 12 classrooms, with Room 1 (Sherpa Room) now being used as a classroom for 3/4L. This room underwent a renovation over the holiday break, having new carpet installed and Ortex applied to the walls. Sherpa will still operate out of Room 1 in the afternoons.

A special welcome to our three new class teachers in 2023 Mrs Quirk, Miss Langfield and Miss Mackey and welcome back to Mrs Craig who is returning from maternity leave. 

In today's newsletter you will find the parent calendar for our Term 1 events. It is a busy start to the school year, however there are a few important dates of note;

Friday 10 February - Swimming Carnival (for students turning 8 and older)

Wednesday 15 February - Induction Mass (10.00am)

Wednesday 22 February - Ash Wednesday Mass (12.00pm)

Friday 24 February - Diocesan Swimming Carnival (Gunnedah)

Wednesday 15 March - NAPLAN assessments (Year 3 and Year 5)

Tuesday 21 March - School Photos

Friday 31 March - Cross Country

Thursday 6 April - Term 1 Special Assembly 

To accommodate our growing school community, our school canteen has extended the number of days to four per week. The canteen will be open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in 2023. Miss Lauren Grant will supervise the canteen on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and Mrs Karen Slack-Smith on Fridays. Orders can be made through the Compass App or using a paper bag. As always, we would love any parent volunteers to assist on any day, even for part of the day! Any help is greatly appreciated!

In 2023, we are returning to fortnightly school assemblies. At these assemblies, class awards and Living Well, Learning Well awards will be presented. Assemblies will be held on Fridays at 2.45pm, beginning next Friday 17 February. Parents are very welcome to join us under the COLA for these assemblies.
