Principal's report

Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Community members of Moonee Ponds West PS

MPWPS Senior Choir: The practices have been getting better and better thanks to the watchful eye of Kate, Kim and Kate’s niece Annina. It will be another fantastic performance by our children.  Please remember for your convenience, we are doing two (2) nights this year:  on December 4 and on December 5.  Both nights start at 7 pm sharp.  You can book on Eventbrite and the tickets are $5 each.  Come along and enjoy a night of live performance and storytelling through singing and drama.

Sound Garage Concerts this week

Our school based music program run by Sound Garage will be holding their concerts this week as well. The first of these is on Tuesday November 26 and the second on Wednesday November 27. When learning an instrument of any sort it is an important part to perform.  Giving yourself the chance to practice and then play or sing is such an uplifting achievement. Well done to all the children who learnt an instrument of any sort.  You are exercising your brain in the most productive way.

Parent Representatives for 2020

This year the Parent Reps have been meeting and working on many exciting projects.  One of these is the development of a Parent Representative Handbook with all you would need to know if you were to take on this role.  There is even a FAQ (frequently Asked Questions) section. At our meetings, many ideas are discussed and one of these was to get the Parent Reps in place now, so that when you get the new class for 2020 you know the Parent Rep.  How will this work I hear you ask?  Well, if you are interested in being a Parent Rep in 2020 (and we hope you will) you express interest on the EOI form and return to the General Office or the school’s email address attention Sandra. Once you have indicated which year level, we will match you up to the class your child is in and presto you are it! Of course, this role can be shared and you would mention this on your EOI form.

Being a Parent Rep is a wonderful way to assist your child value education, help the class and build a collaborative school culture.  Do not be afraid is a great motto when you take on a role like this one.  The handbook is very explicit and helpful we think. Please return your EOI forms by Thursday December 5 to meet the timeline of informing your class by December 10.  So as someone once said: Ubuntu- I am because we are!

Staffing 2020

We are busy employing now and this is very exciting.  A chance for new ideas and friendships.  Congratulations to Ms Lisa Mc Lachlan who after 14 years at MPWPS will be finding the closest bike path to Pascoe Vale South Primary School.  Lisa will take leave from MPWPS for a 12-month contract.  Good Luck Lisa.  Ms Katherine Ayrton will be exploring other interests in 2020 but I thank Katherine for her work at MPWPS. She has made a wonderful contribution to the learning of the children, and is an excellent colleague to the staff.

For 2020, I welcome Ms Dessa Walsh and Mr. Tim Cannan.  Tim has previously worked as an Education Support Officer at MPWPS and has recently trained as a teacher, Dessa is returning from teaching in the United Kingdom. We are currently looking for two more teachers to fill some other vacancies.

Ms Jenny Irvine will continue on leave for the Term 1 of 2020 when she will review her decision.

Finally, at this stage of the year some families are changing addresses.  Please let us know so we can adjust our planning.

Have a happy week with your family and how did the dinner prompts go last week? You know

What is your news and what do you need help with?

Sincerely and in good faith

Kerri Simpson

Principal (Acting at MPWPS)
