Term 2: Sports Report
SWIMMING
Whilst the State Swimming event was held very early in Term 2 at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, it is important to acknowledge the outstanding achievement of Hue Fithie, who finished 2nd in the Under 14 Breaststroke event. This result is a testament to the discipline and determination that Hue applies to his swimming.
CROSS COUNTRY
The main focus of our school-wide sports program in Term 2 was Cross Country. This commenced with our House event on Tuesday, May 3rd with the top 15 from each age group progressing through to the Monash Division event.
Our Year level winners at this event were:
Year 7 | Girls – Sophie Volpert Boys – Alexander Pantelidas |
Year 8 | Girls – Vanessa Sadjoli Boys – Patrick Small |
Year 9 | Girls – Ella Hunt Boys – River Hodges |
Year 10 | Girls – Zaynab Shahul Hameed Boys – Billie Lee |
Year 11 & 12 | Boys – Jessie Sadjoli |
We took a team of over 60 students to the Monash Division event at Nortons Park, Wantirna South on Thursday, May 26th. Like our House event, the top 15 students from each age group would progress to the Eastern Metropolitan Region Championships. We had an extremely successful day, with 28 students qualifying for this event. Our performances at the Year 7 and 8 age group were particularly impressive. Sophie Volpert and Patrick Small were convincing winners of the 12/13 Girls and Boys event, with Vanessa Sadjoli the winner of the 14 Girls and River Hodges coming 2nd in the 14 Boys.
The Eastern Region event was held at Yarra Glen Racecourse on Tuesday, June 14th. All students represented the school with fantastic determination and should be proud of their achievements in reaching this stage. From this event, the top 12 qualify for the State Cross Country event. We extend our congratulations to Patrick Small, who finished 8th, and Sophie Volpert who finished 9th and have qualified for the state event. A special mention also to River Hodges, who narrowly missed qualifying, after finishing 13th. We wish Sophie and Patrick all the best in their upcoming event.
