Middle School

Mr Tom Nash, Head of Middle School

As we arrive at the end of Week 8, it is clear that our Middle School students have made strong and steady progress throughout the term. The past eight weeks have been filled with opportunities for learning, growth, and connection, and the boys have embraced each one with enthusiasm.

From academic challenges in the classroom to sporting commitments, House activities, community events, and the various programs that enrich our Middle School experience, the pace of the College has been energetic and purposeful.

With two weeks still ahead of us, we continue to encourage the boys to finish the term with positivity and focus. Maintaining momentum at this point is important—not only to consolidate the hard work already completed, but also to reinforce habits of perseverance and personal responsibility. A strong finish helps set the tone for the term ahead, and it allows each student to reflect with pride on what they have achieved.

CTRL Your Scroll – Community Information Evening

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students and families in navigating the digital world, we are pleased to highlight the upcoming Navigating the Social Media Delay information session, presented by Ctrl Your Scroll and hosted by Loreto College.

Ctrl Your Scroll is one of Australia’s leading digital wellbeing organisations, having worked with more than 25,000 students, parents and educators nationwide to build healthier online habits and support families in managing the complexities of technology use. With significant national changes now restricting social media access for young people under 16, many households are adapting to new expectations and shifting online behaviours.

This session aims to provide parents and carers with clarity around the updated rules, practical strategies for conversations at home, and research‑backed tools to help support digital balance in family life. The evening is deliberately designed to be supportive, realistic, and grounded in the day‑to‑day experiences of families.

What: Navigating the Social Media Delay Information Session for Years 7-9 families

When: Tuesday 24 March, 6pm-7pm

Where: Mary's Mount Centre, Loreto College

We strongly encourage all Middle School families to attend. Partnering together in this space—students, families, and schools—is one of the most effective ways to support safe, confident, and balanced online habits for young people.

Year 7 – Positive Wellbeing Program

Our Year 7 students have been actively engaged in the Positive Wellbeing Program, delivered by experienced facilitators from Ballarat Community Health. This program aligns with the Victorian Curriculum and complements our extensive pastoral care program, including our Respectful Relationships curriculum and The Resilience Project.

Through a combination of short performances, creative tasks, and structured discussions, the program encourages students to think deeply about respectful relationships, stereotypes, resilience, peer influence, and responsible decision‑making.

Students analyse real‑world scenarios, participate in guided conversations, and reflect on how they can support one another in building a positive and inclusive year level culture.

Students have two more sessions remaining this term, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth as they develop social awareness, empathy, and confidence in navigating friendships and challenges that arise throughout their first year in the Middle School.

The Year 8 Team is proud to acknowledge the success of the 2026 Year 8 Camp, which saw an outstanding 90 per cent attendance rate across the cohort. This strong participation reflects the boys’ willingness to engage with new experiences, challenge themselves, and contribute positively to a shared three‑day program designed to strengthen connection and independence.

Throughout the camp, students demonstrated cooperation, maturity, and enthusiasm, embracing both the outdoor challenges and the collaborative activities that form such an important part of our Middle School journey.

Camps play a vital role in helping students build resilience, develop teamwork skills, and step beyond the familiar in a supportive environment. These experiences often become defining memories—and they help set the tone for how students approach challenges back at school.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Year 8 Homeroom Teachers and all staff who supported the program. Special acknowledgment goes to Year 8Leaders John Hearn and Sarah Lamanna for their leadership in planning and preparing a high‑quality experience for the boys.
