Semester 1 Reports - Industrial Action
We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual. The reports will be distributed on Wednesday, 24 June. The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments for some classes may not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at our next parent-teacher interviews scheduled for Term 3, or, as always, you can contact your child's teacher to arrange a meeting.
Assessment
As our teachers are creating the upcoming Semester Reports, your child may come home and mention that they completed assessment tasks in their classroom.
Assessments can involve a range of activities and are used by teachers to measure student achievement and growth. They can involve such activities as formal standardised tests (often completed on on-line platforms) or be as simple as anecdotal notes written by teachers during reading sessions. The purpose of assessment is to not only "grade" a student's achievement but to also give the teacher meaningful information regarding where to take the learning next. Our assessment schedule at Park Ridge Primary School is broad and wholistic with the aim of giving students the best opportunity to showcase their potential throughout the semester rather than relying on a single high stakes test.
If your child displays any sign of anxiety regarding testing/assessments, please remind them that it is just a chance to show their best efforts and if they try their best they should be proud of their effort regardless of the outcome.
