Life in the LRC

Christmas is upon us!

The festive season is only days away!!

Seeking an activity on completion of her exams, Year 11 student, Bella W, came to the library to offer her help to staff who are very busy with an abundance of end-of-year tasks.

Mrs Ford and Ms Beavis set Bella the task of creating a natural style Christmas tree.

We think Bella did a fantastic job!

Check out the result.

Waste not, want not!

Library staff have been busy weeding the fiction section of the LRC to provide our whole school community with an engaging, up-to-date and varied genre collection. During this process staff have come across many well-known classics that they consider “must reads.” For this reason, they have decided to create a Classic section on their shelves, where staff and students can find many iconic novels.  Mrs Ford has used the LRC’s recently acquired Cricut machine to make our new genre Classic stickers. We are very happy with the result.

Ever wonder where all the weeded books are going? The weeded books will be sold at the Heathmont College Twilight Market. Those not sold will be passed onto charity stores to be on sold.

Funds made at the Market will go towards new resources for the library.

Naughts and Crosses

The library has always been a lively, inclusive place to chill – whether it be to chat, play games, read, study or just hang with friends.

One of our teachers, Mr Harry Brown, has kindly created a new Naughts and Crosses board game for everyone in the Library to make use of.

It has been well received and very popular!

The Heathmont Library team are always keen to showcase a solid profile surrounding our school library, and how it is represented outside of the college.  The School Library Association of Victoria is a key organization for many library professionals.  The current edition of their seasonal magazine, Library Activism, features a Hot Take Topics: Book Week 2025 article.  Book Week is one of the main literary events celebrated throughout the year by all libraries throughout Australia.  The LRC invited the whole school community to join them in “booking an adventure” to celebrate CBCA’s 80th anniversary.
