Teaching & Learning News

Sharing the Great News - NAPLAN 2025!

The NAPLAN results for Years 3 and 5 students were very much celebrated this year, initially being shared with the FWPS School Council members and now the wider community.

Four years ago we set off on a new path with a systematic synthetic phonics program, (Little Learners Love Literacy), commencing in the junior school to promote success in reading, writing and spelling. This change coincided with the introduction of school-wide daily reviews in Mathematics to promote fluency and multiple exposures to key concepts. We think you’ll agree that the results of our first cohort of students to experience the full LLLL program, speak for themselves.

Multi Tiered Systems of Support

We may have paused for a short moment to celebrate the achievements of our students and staff, but we are continually working on raising the bar of academic excellence at FWPS and enacting our ‘catch them before they fall’ approach with structured learning.

Over the past few weeks, our staff have been engaging in professional learning to develop their knowledge of Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) processes and collaborating to develop rigorous plans to further address the identified learning needs of our students in each cohort.

Over the next few weeks, staff will start implementing this work. Our aim for the second half of 2025 is to provide a higher level of targeted support and increased exposure to concepts for students who are working towards the expected standard or at risk of falling below. Through this work, we are also aiming to identify financially sustainable and objectively effective structures which we can take with us into 2026.

What this looks like at each year level will vary slightly, but overall, the identified students will participate in additional literacy or numeracy learning during regular classroom programs.
